Alan Smith (treasurer)
I am married to Susan who I met in the swinging sixties and we have one daughter and two grandsons.
I spent twenty-five years working for Leyland Motors in exports. After receiving my gold watch for long service, the firm went bust the following week! All was not lost however, as the nation was glad to employ me as a Civil Servant. From making money, I was now employed in spending it, until my retirement in 2012.
I became a Christian in 1965 and from then on I regularly attended church. Throughout that time, whilst I believed in God, he was distant and I was never really certain if he was pleased with me or not.
I have heard the message of God’s grace preached many times at church, but it has only been in the last couple of years that I have understood what has been staring me in the face for years… I am fully loved, accepted and forgiven because of the finished work of Jesus on the Cross! I don’t have to rush around doing things in order to earn his favour, or look back over the day to see if I have slipped up at some stage… no, I am fully righteous before God.
That is why I fully support this Charity; the message of God’s amazing grace is a message that brings life, love and liberty.
